Cambodia: logos online and bikes - by Tim Mooney

February 5th, 2010

A very old friend Pauline Johns is doing great work in Cambodia. Pauline is a regular in a certain area of Cambodia where poverty is the norm. Currently Pauline has been working on a few projects: 1. To give bicycles to deserved remote children, and 2. To help establish a school for these needy children.

Two too cute !

Two too cute !

I’ve been lending a hand via email designing a logo for the new school and another logo for an accompanying activity. The great www has no boundaries. Pauline is on her iPhone over there and has the full thing under control. I play with Illustrator and Photoshop and backwards and forwards we go until the local powers approve what is presented. Its fun.
Its a long way from Sydney aerial photography but when you see the photos of these underpriviledged people and their very soft natures why wouldn’t one help. Take a look for yourself:

Just another brick in the rebuild process by Tim Mooney

Rebuilding is fun ... but can be done without

Rebuilding is fun ... but can be done without

I remember hearing this famous Pink Floyd song time and time again and thought that I understood it. Now on the recovery road from being a little ill I realise that the rebuilding of one’s health is an art form.
When our immune system gets messed up its not just a matter of getting better. Its a matter of analysing all the parts and softly testing how they can best go back together.
So all our education history comes into play and we have to biologically relearn how to be in balance … its a long road.
Hey teacher ! Leave those kids alone!

Acupressure by Tim Mooney

December 17th, 2009

Acupressure interests me greatly. Whilst I get little attacks of fatigue I have long been a user of acupuncture as a balancing tool for the body’s energy systems. Recently I rediscovered Acupressure in a dedicated book given to me by my book printer in Singapore. Simply system, stunning results.
Self treatment is possible and delivers results. One of the best points on the body for getting rid of most pain is on the hand just back from the junction of the thumb and first finger.

Don’t use this point during pregnancy

I massage this point a lot to get rid of minor headaches and general pain. It works. Try it.

Food Photography by Tim Mooney

December 15th, 2009

Back in September: Taking photos of food is great because it is very much a challenge. You have to be ready as food deteriorates very quickly … looses temperature, changes shape, colour etc.

To get the lighting close to what's required just set up with anything lying around the kitchen

Lighting plays an important part and its best to use as little as possible introduced lighting.
Always have a big glass of water with you when doing food photography. Why? Well when you get the hungers and you want to demolish the meal … have a glass of water instead … or you’ll end up the size of a bus.

Swine Flu by Tim Mooney

Yes I’m now a statistic. Just before the October long weekend I got pneumonia and that quickly took on Swine flu as its partner.

Two weeks in hospital saw the stuffing knocked out of me and possibly injected a good dose of intolerance. Thanks to all those that carried me thru. Apologies to those that couldn’t get on to speak. TM

That Control Factor by Tim Mooney

September 18th, 2009

I like to be in control of a car when I’m in it. I get a bit crook if I’m not at the wheel.

Yesterday I was out with clients shooting for their portfolio … for 3 hours. In an out of the car and fairly uninspiring weather to boot. Something about being in control that drives the creative juice pump. I found yesterday that I really had to work hard to get the shot. I really had to zone out and detach. All good though. I was left to the job and even though the light was dead I got the shots. Now I can see how valuable 15 years Photoshop experience is.

Rick Stein at the Sydney Fish Markets

September 14th, 2009

With Rick Stein at Bannisters it was really fun to explore the Sydney Fish Markets with Rick in search of the freshest … knowledge. We spent hours there and it was absolutely fascinating. So many species, so much opportunity for photography.
I thought these little red fellas were interestingly ‘arranged’

Ants and The Big Smoke by Tim Mooney

September 4th, 2009

When I take shots like the following of Sydney CBD I think of the volume of people inside. Head down or eyes out the window looking at the helicopter?
When I drive and see all the traffic around me I think that this procession is going on everywhere.

When I’m waiting to take off in the chopper and big jumbo loads of people are landing or lifting off … that too is happening everywhere. Numbers, numbers … Ants on the move that’s all we are.
We are but a little cog in the wheel of progress/fortune/whatever.
Maybe its not all about me.
Its about tolerance.

Darling Harbour Sydney by Tim Mooney

August 31st, 2009

I had dinner with Rick Stein last week in Darling Harbour. We went to a ‘famous’ seafood restaurant which was actually pathetic. The same day this pic appeared in one of Sydney’s leading blog comments:http://tinyurl.com/mmf349

I’ll be flying this week for aerial photography . Where do you want me to go?
